A workshop on methods for river hydromorphological assessment and monitoring took place on 20 – 22 November 2017 at Palacio de zurbano, Madrid (hosted by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment).
The workshop included a field trip to the Manzanares River Restoration project and its relation with hydromorphology and the WFD on Wednesday 22 November.
The key aims of this workshop:
- Discuss lessons learned and challenges identified from the country responses to the Euro-pean questionnaire on hydromorphological assessment and monitoring for rivers.
- Discuss how the review of hydromorphological assessment and monitoring methods can be used to support WFD implementation, especially for the classification of natural and heavily modified water bodies.
- Exchange on the relevance of hydromorphological assessment methods for biological as-sessments in the context of the WFD.
- Exchange on key conclusions and recommendations for the report on Hydromorphological Assessment and Monitoring Methodologies for Rivers.
